Taking Care of Business

REport #3 from the Innovate Conference comes from when Tim Stevens spoke. Tim is the Executive Pastor at Granger. He is seasoned, gifted, creative, relevant, and full of God! You could see God moving in this guys life big time! He is a really good leader! I would love just to hang with him for a while to learn some more about leadership.

Here is the statement tha caught me the most though - As churches and pastors we are intercepting people in the middle of their storyline. Wow! Think about that for a moment. Everytime I interact with someone I am intercepting them in the middle of the storyline! I have seen so many people, pastors, who think they are really something special. They act as though it is an honor for others to get to be around them, to learn from them, to "sit under their teaching."

Wow! Here is the truth: It is an honor to intercept others in the middle of their storyline! It is an honor to be used by God in some little way to help the person take their next steps in their relationship with Christ! The real truth is that while God will use our teaching, God will use our worship, God will use our programs, the thing that makes the greatest difference in people's lives is simply God using our love!

Leading people to be fully devoted followers of Christ is all about intercepting people in the middle of their storyline and helping them discover the next step. The best way to do that is simply to love on them, to listen to them, and to meet their practical felt needs. No matter what people are going through they always want to be loved on! When we show our love by meeting their needs, then were taking care of the business that Christ left for us.
