What a wedding!
I was reading today in Genesis 24 which covers the account of Isaac's and Rebekah’s wedding. The more I read, the more I was blown away by the goodness of God and the truth that is poured out of this passage. Let’s walk through a little bit of it.
Genesis 24:1 – Abraham was blessed in every way! What a goal to live a life that the Lord feels comfortable blessing in every way!
Genesis 24:2-9 – Abraham established very specific expectations and boundaries. He did not pick the girl, but he laid out a pretty clear picture of what he felt like would be good for his son. A lesson we all need to learn as parents.
He also trusted the Lord to go before and prepare the situation. He was putting his trust in God to work out the details, not a human. The servant’s responsibility was to walk in that trust and carry out what God was doing.
Genesis 24:12 – The servant prays for success so it will be a blessing to his authority. He didn’t pray that he would be successful for his sake, but Abraham’s sake. That’s stout!
Genesis 24:26 – The servant gave God the glory for what He had done.
Genesis 24:28-49 – The servant shares with the family about the diligence of God and what He has done.
Genesis 24:50 – The family submits to what God is doing! They can clearly see that it is a God thing.
Genesis 24:52 – The servant bows and worships God again for what He is doing!
Genesis 24:57 – Rebekah goes with the servant immediately!
Genesis 24:66 – Isaac and Rebekah got married!
Take some time today a read through the story. It will really challenge you in your trusting God for your children’s lives.
